AdGabber

So I've been getting emails asking me to make some of you my friends or contacts or whatever, but seriously:

Who the fuck are you?!?

Say something. Post something! Be a real person. I'm not going to click on you, or even read your messages, if you can't step up and say something here! That's not snobbery, it's simply community. We're a group of folks, and I feel like I'm being spammed.

If you actually exist, and if you want to be heard, then I'm looking forward to meeting you. TALK to us! Say something. Then ask people to connect to you.

I tend to agree with your sentiment, although not as passionately. I do hope AdGabber does not morph into an online Yellow Pages directory.
Kevin, you mean that people don't put enough info on their profile pages so that you can get a feel for who they are?
I think he is referring to interaction in some form rather than the static information in a profile but i certainly could be wrong.
Yes, I'm saying write something new. Tell *me* something. You can't talk to a billboard. Share some thoughts. Spark my brain.
It is a social NETWORKING site.
They also serve who stand and wait as the Bard said.

Well, I view networking like I view direct contact work. Direct is perhaps the most effective marketing out there, but it's only as valuable as the effort you put into each person. Simply spamming a lot of people for contacts is going to provide you with a small return, and very weak relationships. Attempting to connect directly and begin a conversation with each person is going to give you a larger return, and very strong relationships.

I guess we just have different opinions on what networking means to us.
I find adgabber to be rather alive, so to speak. I exchange private messages with people, we talk on eachother's pages, we even chat up a bit, when we're there at the same time. And since it's at the beginning, I'm betting that things will lighten up even more
Well i will try .....

Hi my name Iris 29 years old, live in Brazil. My english is not good and i hate that because i understand when i read english but to write is really difficult to me :( i find adgabber reading a post in adsoftheworld.com/blog and came here to meet more ad professionals around the word and looking for some clients too ;) if u want know more about me and my job just ask in my profile: http://adgabber.com/profile/irisfd or send me a message

that´s it ;) and sorry if i write something wrong ;)
and who are YOU?
touche!
Your English is fine, Iris:-)

Perhaps we need a feature like LinkedIn has where when an invite to be a friend gets sent, there's the ability to write a note along with the invite. On Adgabber which is powered by Ning, it seems you only get a simple notice that someone wants to add you as a friend. Of course, yes, to Kevin's and Eugen's points, there are many other ways Adgabber members can communicate prior to sending a friend request. Perhaps we should do that.I'll also make mention to the Ning folks that a LinkedIn-like feature for invites would be good.
and please, please don't forget about the e-mail notifications for other people's discussions or main pages. I'm spending a lot of time checking discussion I took part in, main pages of my contacts etc just to see if something new was said. mail notifications would be huge.
