entertaining for me. I have worked at mid and small size agencies in the past and it makes me want to go back to an agency. But it has to be a big agency.
hey...yeah...i've been following this show religiously for the past 5 episodes...high time they made a show on the lives of ad professionals(and no madmen still falls in drama category in my book)
I think it's a little too real, like they did a mind probe of my most painful career memories. Having to UNsell an idea after discovering the team had "subconsciously" lifted it from CA? Been there. Having the spendiferous "youth insights" gurus join in the fun (because teens, of course, are not just another demo).
The sports star talent bagging out on a shoot at the last minute? Uh-huh. And then there's making out on a bar stool with the hot new art director - JUST KIDDING!
I have to see who's writing it - clearly former agency creatives. I think they should push it though; add some of the quirky and downright bizarre fun that's part of everyday agency life. Amp up the array of awesomely neurotic agency personalities and it could be a lot funnier. Hm. Maybe I should send 'em some scenes ;).
It's entertainment, period. I'm sure somebody figured out that since Mad Men was doing well, that a show based on a 21st century ad agency would do well too. There are definitely some aspects to this show that seem a bit relaistic or at least somewhat reality based, some of which have already been discussed.
UNfortunately, I think it may have the effect of getting every single self-absorbed under 30 slacker (perhaps under 40 slacker) on the planet thnking that they should enter the "ad game". As I watch the ad community getting heavily hit by our "economy", with another friend or two losing their job every day it would seem, and others calling me (who have never done so before) asking me if I (a freelancer) am working, it would appear that we can expect many of the nation's not so bright and gifted to perhaps open their own agencies, regardless of the odds against success. Or has that already been going on now for awhile?
I watch the show too. For how long, I don't know. It is entertaining and I like the ocassional refereneces to people, places and things in the real ad world.
