I do work 2 offices away from Ward, but we're not in the same group. How's the feedback on your work so far? I'd be happy to take a look too, if you'd like.
Hi Rebekah. I took one class at The Book Shop in LA. I thought it was great. All of the teachers are from LA's best agencies and they give you good, constructive feedback. You typically get a few guest teachers as well so you get a few different perspectives. I'd say it's definitely worth it.
Hi Rebekah, thanks for the comment. I kind of snuck into the creative department at my first agency...I was in the PR department and just started pitching in on some copywriting. But I think that's a good example of just going for it and doing what you can to get your foot in the door, as you said. Anything you can do to show that you've got the chops and a passion for smart copywriting will help. Obviously, if you can put some great samples together, that will help. You could also offer to freelance on a project basis. I see that more and more...agencies are often more comfortable trying someone out that way before committing to a full-time hire. Also, study the annuals, particularly One Show and CA...there is some outstanding writing in those. Good luck and feel free to contact me any time.
