Long Copy or Short

It seems like it always comes back to that, doesn't it? I have several clients who sent me 20 or 30 pages of Web site copy that they've written and need re-written. That's an awful lot of copy. On one of my own sites I have perhaps 12 pages of copy as the main page. Still, a lot of copy. (When I say pages, I mean copy that prints out on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet.)

I know that people basically skim Web content. They don't read it. I also know that people are basically lazy and prefer not to… Continue

The First Radio Commercial

I posted the first known radio commercial aired in my playlist. It was aired in 1922 on WEAF in New York. Today, we might call that broadcast an "infomercial", since it purportedly claimed to give information (rather than a direct sales pitch) about New York's Hawthorne Court apartment complex.

I have a nice collection of vintage radio commercials on my site at http://www.powerwriting.com/old-time-radio-commercials.html.

I deleted the Women Copywriters group because the software glitch was never fixed. I moved it over to Facebook. If anyone is interested in joining, I invite you to go to Facebook and join the group. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Well, seems AdGrabber is still having software issues. To the women trying to post to the Women Copywriters forum, it's still not working. I can't even start a discussion on any forum. I'm sure it's not just me. (I'm not quite that paranoid.) Steve said it should be fixed today. So perhaps later in the day. Hey, wasn't Mad Men good last night? I thought it was one of the best yet.

I'm glad you like the commercial, David. I love those vintage commercials, don't you? Actually, I love radio and enjoy writing radio copy. It's amazing that radio has been such a great advertising vehicle and force for good for so long and continues to this day.

I'm delighted to join your radio-oriented group and have asked my friend and associate, Ron Knowles to check it out. He's a great VO man and does the VOs for many of my commercials.

And thanks for posting that first-ever radio commercial! "You owe it to yourself...." So much more genteel than today's "Shop NOW!" And no disclaimers, either!

I invite you to join my little radio-oriented group, Sounds Serious. I know it's on this site somethere...

Sussana, thanks to you for your offer...Maybe you know Quixtar, the old Amway that I never knew....
I think I was not in the country yet at that time or never paid attention to it....I like the business in the sense that I made a lot of friends, wonderful people
pursuing a dream and me and Gabriela are doing fairly well even it was never in my mind to sell a
soap...It gave me a new sense in life, a life that was fading away with no productive time..We have a year in this activity and still learning.
It is very nice to find people like you with the most
powerful tool in the world, which is the capability to help.....thanks again.

Hello? Hello, Dimitri? Listen, I can't hear too well, do you suppose you could turn the music down just a little? Oh, that's much better. Yes. Fine, I can hear you now, Dimitri. Clear and plain and coming through fine. I'm coming through fine too, eh? Good, then. Well then as you say we're both coming through fine. Good. Well it's good that you're fine and I'm fine. I agree with you. It's great to be fine. (laughs) Now then Dimitri. You know how we've always talked about the possibility of something going wrong with the bomb. The bomb, Dimitri. The hydrogen bomb.

Well now what happened is, one of our base commanders, he had a sort of, well he went a little funny in the head. You know. Just a little... funny. And uh, he went and did a silly thing. Well, I'll tell you what he did, he ordered his planes... to attack your country.

Well let me finish, Dimitri. Let me finish, Dimitri. Well, listen, how do you think I feel about it? Can you imagine how I feel about it, Dimitri? Why do you think I'm calling you? Just to say hello? Of course I like to speak to you. Of course I like to say hello. Not now, but any time, Dimitri. I'm just calling up to tell you something terrible has happened. It's a friendly call. Of course it's a friendly call. Listen, if it wasn't friendly, ... you probably wouldn't have even got it.

Hello Susanna,

Great idea. Thanks for suggesting. Information about Real Estate is indeed needed, especially given the current situation in the industry.
