New media for the baby boomers...

What is the role of web 2.0 and new media in reaching the baby boomers? The focus of the new media on the under 40 crowd makes perfect sense. What does the face of baby boomer media look like in 10 years????

Auria,

Some of the freshest ideas source from the most experienced and some of the oldest from the inexperienced.

Hi AJ,
I love your comment on the Old or Experienced" discussion. I worked at a very established music company for eleven years. My boss at the time was a very well-known jingle writer. He'd been in the business for almost 30 years when I joined the company in 1995. Some people were starting to view him as too old, out of touch, etc. I believe that at some point he started believing these things himself. I always believed that his talent as a composer and his years of experience, when put together with the arranging and producing skills of younger musicians would create magic. And it did. Over and over and over again - during my time there. I've since left and started my own music production company, and I don't buy into the labels that society imposes on individuals. I choose to seek out the value in every individual and harness their talent and experience. Keep on groovin'!

I think in our exuberance to engage in new technology and media we are overlooking those exact people. Our industry is so awed by the new toys out there that we're jumping to allot of conclusions about the users.

Our parents and grandparents still represent a huge economic force. For the most part they do not blog, text, visit face-book and care about widgets. We need to be able to stay centered on our services to our clients and their consumers but delivering the message to who needs to receive it, however they can receive it.

While I cannot get enough of the possibilities of web 2.0 and new media I have to constantly remind my staff and myself that we are in unique transitional state as an industry. Our jobs are to guide our clients through these times.
