About Me
A creative in the online realm since 1999 (traditionally schooled in graphic design). I love the complexities of designing online experiences and the rich understanding of the human experience it provides. I'm intrigued and excited by the recent shift in marketing to 'listen mode', having always wanted to advertise without being intrusive and overbearing. I find myself increasingly attracted to the affects of technology on various cultures and trying to imagine what it means for the future.

I am also heavily involved in the AIGA - currently the event chair for the monthly networking event, dMob (design mob), in Portland and soon to be Mentorship Committee Chair for this new effort here in Portland.

iLove/iHate iPhone

Let's get ready to RUMBLE!! All channels are officially abuzz about Apple's iPhone and I've got one thing to say to all the naysayers...don't hate the playa, hate the game.

I'm not going to pretend to know what has kept the more experienced mobile phone manufacturers from beating Apple to the punch, but having spent some time in a large corporate environment, I've got a pretty good idea (or twenty). Now, I'm no Apple cult follower by any means (although I am a Mac user),… Continue

Helio Ocean - Don't call it a phone

Sure, Helio's tagline for their Ocean product is the brainchild of some agency folk (not unlike ourselves), but it seems to resonate. It doesn't feel stuck on to me or too grandiose. It feels just right. Like a statement to pull people forward into the next phase - or possibly, for some, into the one we're in the middle of. It's a statement that, if it sticks, could transition peoples' perspective on technology and the hardware that facilitates it. Now, what I admittedly don't know is if the… Continue

Cingular/AT&T txt msg commercial

I love this commercial. Not only b/c it (oh so very obviously) speaks to technology's effect on culture and behavior, but I just crack up when the Mom gets all tripped up at the end. I don't know if it quite beats out the other mother/daughter "nice fight" one they did… Continue

Social Media projects

I'm stealing this bit from a question Steve Hall posed (below) and my response to it. It's a good place to start for my blog here as it's my current obsession.

Steve Hall posed:

Has anyone taken a dive into the world of social media? Is anyone putting together programs for themselves or for their clients that focus on people-powered media? Is this real or is social media yet another name for what's been around forever: the fact people like to talk to each… Continue

It IS a great place to live. I absolutely love it. I don't drive much (I bus it to work), so I'm rarely at the mercy of traffic. I know there are some really bad spots during rush hour....like up the 5 from here to Vancouver, WA.

Looks like you're just up the 5 from me. I took the wife and daughter up to Portland last month - we found some very charming neighborhoods, although the traffic was a bit thick. All in all, looked like a great place to live.

The gov.'s trying to steal our music again. This time with skyrocketing license fees for internet radio. Help!

I just want to say "hat's off" to AdRants. You consistently make my day. Good to know there are others out there scratching their heads trying to picture the board room pitch for some of the pathetic advertising we're accosted with everyday. Oh, and to hail the breakthrough pieces, like the Guiness guys...BRILLIANT!
