Seems the Managing Editor of TLAVideo.com
will say ANYTHING to move DVDs.
Witness the
exceptionally tasteless description for I'M NOT THERE, the bio-pic by director TODD HAYNES on the life of Bob Dylan. With different actors playing characters based on the life/legend of Dylan, including Christian Bale, Richard Gere and Heath Ledger, it seems TLAVideo, according to Scott Cranin (Managing Editor) could find no other way to advertise this movie in TLA Video's Summer 2008 catalog. There is, however, an entirely different description of the movie on
their site.
Who knew Todd Haynes (POISON, VELVET GOLDMINE) was in such desperate need of sales, given that he is, in Cranin's words, "a gay filmmaker" whose work would "not sell otherwise."
Additionally, Mr. Cranin's remark leads one to believe (that) gay men would not purchase a non-erotic movie UNLESS, in the 135 minutes of the film, there was some "meat" to the matter.
De mortuis nil nisi bonum, Mr. Cranin.
Speak nothing but good of the dead,
but leave the late Mr. Ledger's "lovely penis" out of the equation.
Really now...
