If product placement is blatant, why is it not clickable?

I will let the video below do the talking. Feel free to turn the Overlay off using the second button on the top left, but I propose that if product placement is going to be integrated into the storyline of a video then the advertiser should be able to assert that the video/product be clickable.

I love Black Eyed Peas, and I love this video - so I added a few links to the various CDs that I could find with Overlay.TV affiliate partners. Feel free to edit this video, share it, or add the products yourself so you can collect a commission when someone clicks on the products.

So simple yet so genius! I am ashamed that I haven't thought of it. It makes total sense. I thought that interactive video campaigns such as the "Follow your Instinct" Youtube video campaign is the future of advertising campaigns but it can be as simple as clicking products in a video. The only thing that I don't like about the video you showed is that the ads are too pervasive and destroys the video experience. I know that many viewers will be disgruntled but if it was more subtle like the clickable ad in the bus shelter, I think consumers would love it.

Hi Ben - They can be and are by a number of newer players including ourselves here @ veeple. The thing to keep in mind is that the clciakable ads need to be relevant, engaging and non-intrusive. It is the non0intrusive part that's tough. Also keep in mind that much of this is really about storytelling and enhancing one's brand and message, not only about ads. Best, Scott
