So. If I am to understand San Miguel Beer's latest TVC, the beer giant is intensifying its campaign to go global.
First, it was
Eric Morales. The TVC cashed in on
Manny Pacquiao's dramatic win at the time of the TVC's release. It would've been ok except why did they force Morales to speak in
Tagalog? The effect on the TVC was that it just tried too hard.
And, now,
Jet Li.
Why didn't anybody tell Jet Li to go on a diet first? Either his face was just bloated from too much beer drinking or he got fat. I miss the Jet Li of
Romeo Must Die. San Miguel Beer's Jet Li looked old. In fact, too old to be credible enough to do those stunts. I have visions of production assistants holding tubes of Ben Gay during the shoot.
That rose was too cheesy for my taste. It would've been smoother, savvier and James Bond-er without the rose.
I have no clue what Manny Pacquaio's purpose is on that TVC. I presume he is there because...well...he is the national endorser of
San Miguel Beer. They should've just scratched the guy off the storyboard. He blended with the woodwork after Jet Li's Matrix-like moves.
And why are we so fascinated with all things slow motion? Because it looks funkier to have everything on slow motion or Jet Li has arthritis, ergo, we must slow motion everything?
Still, for all my complaints, I like the new commercial. I even like the new kung fu-ish logo. Best of all, I like the TVC script.
Great moves. Great beer. They should've just used that for a tagline instead of
Walang Katulad (Nothing else compares).
