SIMONE WILKERSON 'A DAY IN MY LIFE'

Ms. Simone has been writing since she was 14 years old. Growing up, adults would pay her to write intimate cards to their love ones. It was such a gift she would only need you to tell her a little bit about the person and then she would formulate your words into passion. In the fourth grade she was doing sixth grade English with no thought towards becoming a writer.

The book is about different days in her life, each poem graduating to the next event. She was in a place in her life where she had not exercised her gift of thought, for fear someone would hear them. It illustrates how she ended up where she was supposed to be without knowing.

In the process of her own journey she learned that the youth around her had a voice. They needed a platform of their own to share their stories. She discovered that the need among the youth was great but no one was willing to step up to the challenge. Fighting against the initial thought of mentoring teenagers, she took a step of faith that ultimately became the birth of the “A Day In My Life Poetry Club.”

Her mentorship extends far beyond the U.S. She is always spreading the inspiration that was once imparted into her, especially when taking youth to college orientations and providing care packages for teenagers with little to nothing.
