Nudity Doesn't Aways Equal Sexy in Advertising

Wow. Could this potentially sexy ad be any less sexy and more pedestrian that it is? To promote its full body blow dryer, Triton created a video featuring a nude model in her bathroom taking a shower and then drying off. While all this imagery is happening (nude and possibly NSFW), an announcer drones on about how the product saves on towel usage, doesn't spread germs, makes for less laundry, reduces harmful humidity, warms you on a cold winter morning and makes drying the kids and pets fun.

Hmm, apparently every ad doesn't have to be innuendo-laden and over the top objectifying of women to actually convey a commercial message. Who knew?

I disagree with your observation. I think I'd rather see a pleasant looking female than a male or young person. I think it could look more sexual or erotic with a male (but for a select audience) in the nude. If you picked an older less in shape hero (male or female), it could look comical. A younger person would get a lot of flack, too. Though, I think if they had added in a toddler/child perhaps shot discreetly with the mother assisting them… this may have also sent the message. I think the price point on a product like this would be geared towards single persons with discretionary income.

I appreciate the product description and understand that there had to be a model (and that this model must be disrobed) to demonstrate the idea of the product. I think it was handled as well as can be. If there had be any overt sexualizing of the model or otherwise “hints” at this being sexy… then there would be a lot of backlash.

And besides, you’d really miss the message of the ad. The idea of wind blowing over the body is a nice feeling, but can be connoted as sexual in nature because it brings us physical pleasure. Nonetheless, I think it can be considered pleasant, like a massage or having one’s hair done. I personally would love a product like this in my home. And I’m a female. I’m not offended… I feel informed.
