AdGabber

I'm curious. All the usual stuff is here: profiles, news, photos, blogs, videos, forums. With all that in mind, what do you want to get out of AdGabber? What content would you like to see here?

Three months later and I really do like this forum, but I am still missing a user-friendly search function... Especially to serach amongst members' names, companies, locations, etc. :(

Maybe each member should have a portfolio section that prospective employers/adgabber members may view. artists might want a slideshow option in their pages so that they could display their work. Writers could get a graffiti wall showcasing their winning lines.

Would it be possible to create a client & supplier database here as well or is that going too far?

Also maybe we can link ourselves with other online publications (and their authors maybe) such as AdAge.com and Springwise.com.

It would be nice to see the big agencies putting up a group here too.

Hanna. Excellent ideas. A specific portfolio section would be great but for now, I have to work within the confines of what Ning - the company behind the technology that powers AdGabber - offers. The video and Photo sections can be used by individuals to upload their work. Photos can be displayed on a persona's page in slideshow format as well.

a client supplier database would be a wonderful idea but that probably goes beyond the scope of what AdGabber can accomplish currently. If you can expand upon your notion of linking to other pubs, I'd love to hear it. Similar to that, when we redesign Adrants - in the next four to six months - we hope to heavily integrate AdGabber content so that AdGabber content is more readily accessable to those that visit Adrants.

Again. thanks for the suggestions.

Hey, all:

I’m on the same page as Page as far as looking to confabulate with other CDs, writers, designers.

Especially interested in sharing practical management ideas with other Creative Directors: staff training & development, productivity, and ways to raise the quality of creative work.

Steve - I agree that you that you should look at ways to segment interests on AdGabber. The “Groups” look like one way to do it. And I agree with the person who wants less of the air-heads and jive-hounds.

...and maybe thats not quite the way I intended to say it. I dunno...I used to think that I wanted to be like some of you Ad stiffs: Mildly happy and equally as successful to a point...but the more I'm around some of you, the more discouraged I get about it all. I do have something to say and that need to say it burns deeply within me. I'm like some of you with a million super balls, excitedly doing their thing within the confines of my skull with no care to me.

I want to do something for Viagra or any one of the other "boner" pills out there. I want to do a coke presentation that has never been done or thought of. I want to make a Digital movie like "A Bugs Life"...but only for adults with a script that rivals the writers for "The Family Guy"...I want to make some great photos. (seems my prof thinks I have a pretty damn good eye and warped mind for it).

and lastly,

I definitely want, what one big wig in Soflow called, "fuck you" money. Kindness and giving of oneself is the most addictive drug out there. He knows who he is and I genuinely smile and applaud in his direction...because ultimately, he has it right in his head.

I dunno...I guess I'm looking for more than a "you can DO it" looped soundtrack that seems to permeate these halls.

I suppose, what I'd like is a lot of participation and for things to generally stay on the advertising/ marketing type topic. I find a lot of social networks may have lots of members, with a relative few participating. I also am hoping that the people who choose to be members here will have some relevance to advertising.

Also, I like the aspect of LinkedIn that involves asking a question and getting a response from the network. Unfortunately, most of the answers one seems to get on LinkedIn are from people who don't have the skills to understand the questions being asked. I think it would be more effective here, based on the relatively similar expertise of the members. So perhaps a little more directed Q and A kind of stuff.

Hi Steve.. I think any documentation that describes how to nav the site... and how it works... This would be helpfull for nubies. I'm pretty experienced forum user, I think this one has a start up curve tad sharper than most. (only because its so good).

Right now I would be interested in helping/starting with a new catogory called site-review ?? Where are the mod's ?? How do I make such a request ??? It's good for site traffic and creates alot of interaction, so it would be good for all. ??????

Robert,

There's a Forum topic called AdGabber topics that I set up just for this sort of this. You are right though. There's a lot here and it does take a bit of time to learn everything.

When I click on any user, I only see who they know. That's useless to me. What's up with Ning??? How come we can't see details about a person when we click upon them?

When someone asks me to be a friend, I find that I have no interest in doing 20 clicks of legwork to figure out who they are and what they're up to. I just ignore all new friend requests, which is probably exactly what Ning doesn't want.

Thoughts?

Kevin, I find that I can see their whole profile down the left column -- interests, current situation, previous gigs, education -- and their most recent discussion comments.

That's how I knew what the folks commenting on your page were talking about.

And, I'll second TJ and anyone else that I'm interested in friends who want to talk about the business -- and push the work farther. Definitely not interested in collecting friends for the sake of collecting friends. Unless it'll get us all more work . . . ;-)

I think I know what's going on. When you get notifications via email that someone wants to be your friend, the links in the email point to their profile so you can see who they are.

If you just click on the friend notification icon on the AdGabber site at the top of the site, you just see an uninformative minimal profile.
